Vietnam Veterans of America is a veterans service organization
that is tax-exempt under 501 c 19.

Vietnam Veterans of America created the Veterans Health Council (VHC) in 2009 in partnership with academics, health care professionals, advocacy organizations, unions, pharmaceutical companies, and healthcare providers to improve the health of all veterans by creating an ongoing forum via its website, www.veteranshealth.org, for veterans, their families, and healthcare professionals. The goals of the VHC are three-fold: 1) To inform veterans and their families about health issues related to their military service, along with the VA health care and benefits available to them; 2) To educate members of the healthcare community about health issues associated with military service; and 3) To develop educational materials for medical colleges, nursing schools, teaching hospitals and related entities that emphasize the healthcare needs of veterans.

The VHC estimates that over 75 percent of veterans receive their medical care outside of the Department of Veterans Affairs. That equates to roughly 17 million veterans using private health insurance and non-VA providers, most of whom ignore military experience as a medical risk factor despite the wide range of related health issues. Without knowing that a patient had associated military experience, medical conditions can be misdiagnosed. Many veterans do not realize how much their military experience affects their health, and they are simply unaware that their health problems may be related to their particular military service—diseases, maladies and sicknesses that entitle them to medical care and compensation from the VA. Your contribution is vital to the ongoing efforts of the VHC and veteranshealth.org. Thank you for your help.
